Choosing the right colors
Colors like yellow, green and orange may bring freshness to your home, but if you want something that says “luxury”, stick with the classics like beige, off-white shades and deep brown. Black or white are also a good choice, especially when it comes to details. Items in golden or copper tones will obviously help achieve that lavish effect, and if you catch yourself wanting everything to look like made of pure gold, just remember that story of King Midas and his golden touch.
Luxury is in the eye of the beholder
If something looks expensive, that doesn’t mean you had to spend a fortune to get it. There are many budget friendly ways that bring elegance to your living space. Visit the local flee market or pay a visit to your grandparents. A small antique shop around the corner you haven’t stepped in yet is maybe the right place to start your search. There is a work of art waiting to be discovered by you and proudly displayed in your home.
Materials and textures
Assuming you can afford it, always go for natural materials like wood, silk and leather and avoid the artificial ones. Natural materials don’t just look good, they have that luxurious feel. If you had a chance to sneak a peek into luxury new homes, you would probably come across these materials.
It’s all about details
Curtains, drapes, shiny new door knobs and throw pillows do make a huge difference. The way you combine different colors and textures can create a glamorous effect. If your furniture is not on the expensive side, carefully picked accessories can camouflage that fact. Beautiful vases filled with ornaments or fresh flowers are within everyone’s budget. Sometimes you just have to make a few changes that go a long way. Strategically positioned and right type of lighting can give your old room a new look.
Big is beautiful
We are not saying that you have to get an oversized coffee table or sofa, but don’t be afraid to experiment. An unusual piece of furniture or a big sculpture can show your extravagant side and make you look like a true art connoisseur. Find a good place within a room to exhibit it and let it steal the spotlight. This will add an artful touch and make the whole room seem more sophisticated.
