When it comes to getting a new house, we often get excited and sometimes forget some of the most essential things like a laundry bin or even a simple saucer. We also become quite picky when we’re looking at different houses for sale and sometimes go over budget when designing our own. But there are just these essential things that every modern home cannot operate without.

1. Smart Home Technology

Most brand new appliances, big or small, are now interconnected with each other. The introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) made it more easier and convenient for home owners to operate household devices using a single interface. These smart devices also offer more electricity usage efficiency. They may be a bit expensive to buy, but they do make up for it with the low electricity usage and hence reduced utility bill. There are concerns though of burglars hacking their way inside your homes with this kind of technology. That being said, it is clear that through the IoT, our lives will become more convenient and we would be able to control and be aware of our homes with a single touch of a button. Although there aren’t many reports with regards to break-ins on smart homes, it’s still better to be aware that such things are possible.

2. Extra Outlets

When a lot of guests are coming over, one of the first things they would ask for, is the WiFi password and the closest outlet. We live in an era where technology governs our daily lives. We are dependent on technology that if you strip that away from us now, we won’t be able to do even the most basic of things. All of the things that we use such as devices and appliances, are all powered by electricity. It is important to consider that you need to have indoor and outdoor outlets since it is harder and more dangerous to run extension cords outside. There are home decors and lighting that rely on external outlets and it would be good if you are planning to have renovations in the future. You can also install USB power points in specific areas around your home.

3. Storage Spaces

Maximize your living space by integrating storage spaces in rather empty places. If you have stairs leading to your second floor, chances are the bottom part of it is just empty. Why not use the excess space for storage to keep your house clutter free? Elevating your bed off of the floor and putting storage spaces in between, you can put clothes and other necessary bedroom essentials inside of them to save up on putting up more cabinets and dressers. Make use of the unused spaces in between corridors and even make use of full length wardrobes that give plenty of space.

Whether we’re buying a new house or designing our own, everyone has unique preferences and sometimes, builders and real estate agents can help point out the pros and cons of each. It ultimately depends on each individual on what they want their house to have or how they want it to be unique.Â
